An explanation

So... for those of you who haven't heard this story or are missing some details, here's an explanation of my adventure last night.

This weekend (Friday-Sunday) was NCSU Campus Crusade's annual Fall Retreat at Camp Dixie in Fayetteville. Due to a larger-than-expected turnout a lot of the people (myself included) slept in hammocks or tents. I naturally used my brand-new (Wednesday) Eagle's Nest Outfitters hammock. The area I ended up using was a triangle of three trees, with the resulting shape from the hammocks resembling a < sign:

I was on the branch between trees #1 and #2 on Friday night, with Konner above me and Taylor and Jay between trees #1 and #3. Saturday night, Sara and another Taylor (a girl... talk about confusion haha) joined us, so we went to three high under our awesome tarp setup. Between trees 1 & 2, Sara was on the bottom, then Konner, then Jay. Between trees 1 & 3, I was on the bottom, then guy-Taylor, then girl-Taylor. I was the first in my stack to go to sleep (time check: about 1am). Around 1:30 or 1:45 girl-Taylor showed up and climbed up into her hammock, on the top of the 1-to-3 hammock "stack'. Shortly after she got in, tree #3 snapped at the base and started to fall towards tree #1... thankfully there was a fork in tree #1 that caught the trunk of tree #3 or else girl-Taylor, guy-Taylor, and I would have all been under tree #3 when it fell and probably would have sustained bodily injury. Thankfully, tree #3 got stuck in tree #1 and so we were all able to safely get out and move our hammocks and other stuff out of the area where we had strung up our hammocks. Turns out that tree #3 did not have a top (which had been very difficult to see before since the top of tree #3 was obscured by the leaves and branches of tree #1, tree #2, and several others in the area), and had actually been eaten by termites. To say we were lucky to get out without a scratch is definitely an understatement... apparently God still wants me here. And I'm cool with that. :)
