Keep (whatever)ing!

Photography has always been something that I've enjoyed. Looking at the big picture and capturing a small portion of it "on film" (digital photography for the win) is a different way of viewing the world and I like doing that. I've recently been reading a lot of camera reviews as I'm looking to upgrade to a new camera, and a few things have come from that research. First, the camera I want to get:

Kinda expensive but a great all-around camera with full manual controls and 5x optical zoom (translation: perfect for what I'm looking for). Time to start saving some money... (Amazon)

Secondly, during my research I came across Digital Photography Review, a great website that provides comprehensive reviews and discussion of cameras and camera gear. One of their recent blog posts was called "Keep Shooting!", and told the story of this guy who's taken an average of 150 pictures per day with a compact camera. The article led to the conclusion that how nice your gear (photographic or otherwise) is doesn't matter if you don't use it. And this is the point of this somewhat simple post for the week... learning to use what you have and use it to its full potential is more valuable than worrying more about what gear you have. So, while it's pretty awesome to have the latest & greatest thing, it's not always the best thing to get/have... practice > gear.

This week's music:
"Very Merry Christmas" by Dave Barnes

Just got this yesterday and I'm already addicted... he's got a slightly bluesy sound that has an addictive quality to it. A great addition to your Christmas music collection.
